If you wish to travel with your senior family members or children, these enjoyable routes through the valleys, villages and pasturelands offer a great exposure to the local life in Tibetan cultural sphere. You can stay with a farmer’s family helping in the fields of barley, or attend animals, ride horses and make yogurt at a nomad’s family on pastureland. You may visit a Thangka painting artisan, or stay at a temple and attend meditation sessions. We also offer the trip to Dunhuang caves to appreciate the ancient arts on the silk road. Meet in Xining. You will be welcomed by our local guide and driver. Drive to your hotel in the heart of city. Welcome dinner at a Tibetan restaurant with Tibetan folk music and performance.
Drive 150k /2 hours to Kokonur the biggest saline lake on the Tibetan plateau. We will spend some time at lake before you go up to Shala Pass for a great panoramic view of the entire lake, grassland, fields and surrounding mountains. While you enjoy the open view of the nature, we will prepare for your picnic. After picnic, we will drive another 20 mints to our camp site. It'll be a great chance for the kids to help setting up the tents. The dinner will be with view of the Shala valley dotted flowers and animals at the sun set. Campnight at the Shala Rigan.
Wake up to the fresh air. Your breakfast will be ready on the table. After breakfast, we will take down all our tents and pack our personal items, drive another hour to Chabcha town for shower. Lunch in the town. Drive to Erthi village for home stay with local Tibetan family. In the evening, we will make momos(Tibetan steamed dumplings).
After breakfast and good bye to our host, today we will drive toward to Trika (Chin: Gui De). Stop for views at the top of Amnye Warhong Mountain, the holly mountain of the region. We will take kora around the Labtse (heap of arrows and spears offering to the mountain deity), and hang prayer flags at the top of mountain, then continue the trip to Trika through a deep canyon along the Yellow River. We will stop for photograph and short breaks. Arrive in Trike at noon, lunch in the town, and visit Trika old town and Mani Chenmu (Great Mani Prayer Wheel). Overnight in Trika
Drive along the Yellow River to Khamra Geological National Park, where you will be doing a one-hour scenic hike on the mountain. Picnic at the at the end of hike, then visit the quite Namzong Nunnery. Drive through the forestry and mountain road to reach the peak. In the early evening we will drive toward Rebkong (Chin: Tong Ren). Overnight in Rebgon.
In the morning, we will walk to Rongwu Gonchen Monastery, a mother monastery of 35 monasteries, and one of the most prominent monastery in Gelugpa tradition. We will walk along side with local pilgrims to visit the temples. In the afternoon we will visit a Thangka-painting monk artist who will give you a short introduction on different Thangka painting traditions and styles. You will get a chance to participate a short Thangka painting workshop, and chat with the artist over tea at his courtyard. We will have dinner with a local Tibetan family of Gyawo village.
Drive to Xining via Shachong monastery, one of the six most important monasteries of Gelugpa tradition, where the great founder / reformer Tsongkhapa had received the ordains and studied. This monastery is quite hidden on the top of Amnye Shachong mountain. We will visit the monastery, get a great view of the Yellow River valley from the monastery while making a kora. In the early evening we will drive to Xining.
